Erotic Review Photography Competition: FAQ

  1. How do I pay for the photographs that I submit?

    •  There are a number of ways that you can pay for your entry:

    1. You can pay online by debit and all major credit cards.
    2. You may fill out the credit card portion on the _printable entry form_. In addition to the credit cards we will also accept international money order and bankers draft drawn on a UK bank made payable to Erotic Review Books Ltd and in Sterling only. All postal applications must include the online registration number on the printable entry form and it must be signed.
    3. You may send the form, payment and CD to:

    4. We use a secure server using 128 bit encryption, which is the highest level of security available on the Internet. We have an authorised Secure Server certificate from Thwate, a third party verification service. The secure server software (SSL) encrypts all information you input before it is sent to us. All of our customer data we collect is protected against unauthorised access.
  2. What fees are payable to enter the competition?

    • Photographers are only allowed to enter the competition just once (only one account per person or profile is allowed). You can submit up to 12 photographs for the one-off fee of £20.00 sterling. Submission, payment and uploads are accepted until the deadline of midnight Saturday 31st January 2009 (UK time).
    No refunds will be made to any photographer who wishes to withdraw from the competition once they have registered and paid to enter.

  3. Are the fees on your website in UK£ sterling?

    • Yes, at this time we only accept UK currency - sterling.

  4. How do I enter the competition?

    • To enter the competition, fill out the online application form by first clicking on /How to Submit Work /button, and follow the online application's instructions. If you wish to apply by post then after registering you can click on the _postal entry application_ to download and print the form and mail it to us with your CD of photographs and payment.

  5. How many winners are selected and what are the prizes?
    1. £1,000.00 cash, feature spread in Erotic Review magazine and competition book, will be awarded to the overall winner selected by the judges.
    2. £250.00 cash, featured in Erotic Review magazine and competition book, will be selected by our readers for the best single image winner.
    3. 50 top photographers images are selected for the competition book.
  6. What is the deadline for the competition?

    • All entries must be submitted by midnight Sunday 31st January 2010 (UK time) for online entries and we accept mailed entries that are post-marked on the final deadline from where you are sending your entry.

  7. How many photographs can I enter in the competition?

    • A maximum of 12 photographs are allowed by any one photographer. You are only allowed one registration account per person in this competition. Any person later found to have multiple accounts will be immediately disqualified, without a refund of their entry fees.

  8. What is considered a series?

    • Two or more photographs (but no more than 12) that share the same theme, concept of style - rather than a set of unrelated pictures. Whilst each photograph will be judged on its individual merit, the judges, drawn from the erotic and photographic art world, will be judging original outlook, accomplished photographic skills, and above all, coherent, technically proficient and exceptional erotic imagery.

  9. Can I enter digital photographs into the competition?

    • Yes, you may ONLY send digital files on a CD or DVD by traditional mail or upload your files online. Do not send original prints as they will not be returned.

  10. Is it possible to enter digital photographs over the Internet for the competition?

    • Yes, it is. You may upload your digital photographs to our website once you have completed the online registration form and made payment.

  11. What format should the digital files be in ?

    • Uploaded photographs should be in the following format:

    1. JPG/JPEG files saved using High Quality (80% compression or Photoshop setting 10) (roughly 2-6mb compressed) with Adobe RGB 1998 embedded profile.
    2. To ensure that your images are of sufficient quality for reproduction the smallest dimension (height or width) of your file should not normally be less than 2480 pixels, unless for a good reason.
    3. Please supply the photographs in the colour-space in which it is intended to be reproduced. If the photograph you submit is in black and white, we will assume this is how you intended it to be reproduced. If you are not familiar with these terms or do not have digital files of your work, more can be learned at any high quality copy centre or art service bureau, where this digital transaction can be done. Please have the photographs photographed or scanned clearly, it is in your interest to do so, as we want to see your photographs at their best.
  12. My photograph is not a jpg, how do I convert it?

    • You can convert a photograph into a JPG/JPEG file using a number of pictures editor software such as "Microsoft Paint". In these programs open your photograph and select "Save As" from the "File" menu. You must ensure you give your file another name to stop you from overwriting your existing file and select "JPEG" in the "Save as Type" menu. Your photograph should now be save as a JPG/JPEG file and can be uploaded into Erotic Review Books Photographer of Year Prize database.

  13. Do I have to upload all my entries at once?

    • No, you can log in and upload images at any time.

  14. Can I change or modify a photograph(s) once submitted?

    • Sorry, but once you have submitted an image you cannot change it.

  15. Is there a time limit within which the photographs should have been taken?

    • No. You may submit any photograph regardless of the date it was taken.

  16. Can I submit manipulated images or do they have to be an original image?

    • Yes, as long as the photographic imagery is achieved by the means of a digital or traditional film camera. We will accept photographs that have been digitally enhanced. However, the base imagery must have been photographic.

  17. What is the minimum age requirement to participate in the competition?

    • Both the photographer and their model(s) must have been 18 years of age or over on 1 January 2009. No one under the age of 18 years old or the minimum required age in your country to access the Erotic Photography Awards or its website or any adult oriented websites may enter this competition. Any winner later found to be under this age limit will be disqualified and their entry fees will be forfeited.

  18. Are there any restrictions on the nature of the photographs?

    • Yes, whilst Erotic may be interpreted in its widest sense, we have placed a few restrictions for photographs suitable for publication and that it must represent sexuality of a single person or between consenting adults. We must reiterate that no photographs will be considered that contain reference to minors or animals.

  19. What if I forget my username or password?

    • If you forget your username or password, click the /How to Submit /link in the home page. Click the /Login /link and then /Lost Password/. The system will prompt you for your username and email address. We will send your login details to the email address you registered with. Please check your email for a message from "ER Photo Competition" at "webmaster@eroticprints.org".

  20. Why am I not receiving all my emails from Erotic Review Books Photographer of the Year Prize?

    • Please check your SPAM folders for missed emails, and make sure you add us in your acceptable email list.

  21. How is the competition juried?

    • Whether you submit one or more (up to 12 photographs) for our judges to decide on,you have the chance to have all submissions as each photograph is judged anonymously and on its own individual merit. Each judge will view each entry by you and award a high to low number score to each photograph. At the end of competition, the scores of each judge will be added together for each of your submitted artwork, giving you a total. The highest totals will be the winners.

  22. Who are the judges?

    • We have 5 judges who are drawn from the erotic and photographic art worlds. To find out more about our judges for this years award, visit the judges section on the website. You can read their biographies here.

  23. How will the competition winners be notified?

    • The winning photographers will be notified by email or mail by March 15th 2010. All other entrants will be notified via email by the 18th March. The winner(s) names will be posted on the website on March 18th 2010 - or as near to these dates as possible.

    •  The results of the Public Vote will be announced and posted on the website on March 18th 2010 - or as near to this date as possible.

  24. How will my photographs be used?

    • One of the great things about this competition is its global reach. Erotic Review Books Ltd may reproduce and/or license the reproduction of any of the winning entries featured in the Erotic Photography Award for marketing and publicity use, in all media, directly related to the competition only. However, such free use shall only be in connection with the Erotic Photography Award, and where practicable the photographer, and if appropriate the agency, will receive credit for such use.

    1. On top of this, Erotic Review Books Ltd will publish a book of all the competitions winning photographs that we know will become a great collectors item.
    2. All the winning photographers entries will be posted on our /This Year's Entries /website page. We will provide a link to each photographers website if they have one.
    3. No copyright is transferred to Erotic Review Books in respect of any works entered or accepted.
  25. Will I get compensated for the use of my photograph(s)?

    • There is no monetary payment for use of your photograph(s), however in the case that it is being used for something other than the promotion of the competition, you will be contacted and given the option to decline the use of your work. If you choose to participate, monetary compensation will be discussed and an agreement drawn up.

  26. What benefits do I get for entering the competition?

    • In addition to winning a cash prize(s) (£1,000.00 for the overall winner, and £250.00 for the best single photograph), you will also get a feature spread in the Erotic Review magazine and competition book, with international distribution. In addition to the two cash prize winners, the 50 top photographers images will be selected for the competition book. Your work will be displayed on the competition website until 2010, with links to your own if you have one. But most importantly, your work will be reviewed and assessed by professional judges consisting of agents, book & magazine publishers, established photographers in the field of erotic photography, academics, art consultants and collectors, and curators.

  27. Who do I contact if I am experiencing payment or technical difficulties with erphoto website?

    • We have a contact button at the foot of each page on our website, which enables you to send an email message to our . A response will be sent at the earliest convenience. Please note that this will only be done during normal hours office hours.
