The Erotic Review

Erotic Review Magazine: Relaunch

Back to the future.

Having watched the Erotic Review languish in the doldrums for the three years since it was sold by Dennis Publishing, miraculously we were able to buy it back in February 2007.  The relaunch took place in December of that year,  with  some of the best contributors from its glorious past  and some new ones for its exciting future.

The rebirth of ER reminds us that while sex is common to all of us, it's rarely written about in a way that entertains, inspires and tells what we don't already know. From national newspapers to advertising, almost every branch of the media is bent on the dim and lumpen sexualization of Britain. They choose the bland middle ground between sensationalism and flesh, oafishly seeking the knee-jerk reactions of a shockable, pre-1960s audience that no longer exists at the same time as patronizing the liberated and unshockable one that does.

The Erotic Review's revival is an antidote to Britain's dumbing down of sex. For men and women alike, it will set a benchmark for intelligent writing about a wonderful, complex subject, trouncing the flaccid fleshbite-fest of the dreaded Channel 4 or 5 'sexumentary'. It will boast excellent fiction, sparkling features and superb photography. We'll review new books, exhibitions, and films and see what the adult entertainment industry gets up to. We'll look at the fashion, music and popular entertainment industries. We'll do our best to avoid the product-placement imperative of the lads' mags.

We want to produce a sexy, literate, grown-up magazine that reminds us that sex is good fun, important for the continuance of the human race and essential inspiration for culture in general. Lastly, we want to demonstrate that there is so much more to sex than simply doing it.
