The Erotic Review

Erotic Review Magazine: Press Information

REVIVAL

The Erotic Reviewhas been back in business since December 3rd 2007. Witty, informative, sexy and literate Fiction, Features and Reviews: the Erotic Review does sex like no other magazine.

Back to the Future

Having watched the Erotic Review languish in the doldrums for the three years since it was sold by Dennis Publishing, miraculously, we were able to buy it back in February 2007 and relaunched in December the same year with some of the best contributors from its glorious past – and some new ones for its exciting future.

Revival

The rebirth of ER will remind us that while sex is common to all of us, it's rarely written about in a way that entertains, inspires and tells what we don't already know. From national newspapers to advertising, almost every branch of the media is bent on the dim and lumpen sexualization of Britain. They choose the bland middle ground between sensationalism and flesh, oafishly seeking the knee-jerk reactions of a shockable, pre-1960s audience that no longer exists at the same time as patronizing the liberated and unshockable one that does.

No More Dumbing Down

The Erotic Review's revival is an antidote to Britain's dumbing down of sex. For men and women alike, it will set a benchmark for intelligent writing about a wonderful, complex subject, trouncing the flaccid fleshbite-fest of the dreaded TV 'sexumentary'. It will boast excellent fiction, sparkling features and superb photography. We'll review new books, exhibitions, and films and see what the adult entertainment industry gets up to. We'll look at the fashion, music and popular entertainment industries. We'll do our best to avoid the product-placement imperative of the lads' mags.

Literate Sex

We want to produce a sexy, literate, grown-up magazine that reminds us that sex is good fun, important for the continuance of the human race and essential inspiration for culture in general. Lastly, we want to demonstrate that there is so much more to sex than simply doing it.

FICTION

There are very few UK magazines that consistently supply a platform for short fiction. This has always been an important feature of ER. We intend to continue this tradition by providing a space where authors may publish their work. Past and current contributors include:

Some Recent Fiction Contibutors
AF HARROLD ALAN JENKINS ANNE BILLSON
GARRY DEXTER CHRISTINE POUNTENEY LUKE JENNINGS
JOHN GIBB BELLE DE JOUR CHRISOPHER HART
GEOFF NICHOLSON LILIAN PIZZICHINI MICHAEL BYWATER

With emphasis on good writing, the Review's contributors come from a broad background of arts, current affairs and literary journalism, and are admirably placed to comment upon every aspect of sex and sexuality. Past and present contributors include:

PHOTOGRAPHY

Photography will always be a special focus for ER. As with good erotic fiction, good erotic photography becomes increasingly hard to place in printed media. We aim to showcase seasoned professionals as well as raw new talent, the famous and the promising: we will award an annual prize (see www.erphoto.org) for the best erotic photographer of the year.

ART & ILLUSTRATION

Artists, illustrators and cartoonists are as important to the Erotic Review now as they always have been. We want  a broad range of erotic imagery to give the magazine a lively and distinctive appearance. And with an art-world background, its current editor is keen to give space to any talent that fits this bill.
