Wilde's imagery is equally provocative and varied. His brush with Surrealism, using hard-core pornographic images in his collages, is intriguing, particularly in the context of his connection with one of the last living Surrealists, Hans Bellmer. At the time of their execution in the 60's and 70's, most of his numerous projects for book illustration were perceived as being far too extreme for all but a small group of patrons.
